Inside Diamond Cut Detailing’s Purpose Built Paint Protection Film Facility in Exeter

At Diamond Cut Detailing, creating the right environment for Paint Protection Film installation has always been one of the biggest priorities behind the business. While many people only ever see the finished result, very few see the level of planning, investment and refinement that goes into producing high level Paint Protection Film installations consistently.

Located in Exeter, Devon, our dedicated Paint Protection Film facility has been designed specifically around precision, workflow efficiency and quality control. From daily driven vehicles through to Porsche, supercars and high performance models, every installation carried out within our dedicated Exeter Paint Protection Film studio follows the same process focused approach.

Having worked closely with owners of Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, Aston Martin and other high value vehicles, we understand that exceptional Paint Protection Film installation begins long before the film touches the vehicle. The facility, equipment and processes behind the installation all play a major role in achieving the final result.

Building a Dedicated PPF Studio in Exeter

From day one, the vision for the facility was clear. We didn’t want a standard detailing unit that also happened to install PPF. We wanted to build a specialist Paint Protection Film studio dedicated entirely to vehicle protection and high level PPF installation.

As demand for Paint Protection Film in Exeter and across Devon continues to grow, continuous investment into the facility remains one of the biggest priorities behind the business. Every upgrade within the studio has been designed to improve consistency, installation precision and ultimately the level of finish our customers receive.

Why the Installation Environment Matters

One of the latest upgrades to the studio has been the introduction of fully integrated air conditioning throughout the Paint Protection Film workspace. Temperature plays a major role in Paint Protection Film installation, particularly when working on complex panel shapes, satin finishes and high end paintwork.

Maintaining a stable and controlled environment throughout the year allows for greater consistency during installation while improving film handling, positioning and finishing.

For the customer, this level of environmental control directly impacts the final result. Stable installation temperatures help improve film conformity around complex edges and reduce unnecessary tension within the film during installation. This allows for cleaner finishes, improved wrapped edges and greater overall consistency across the vehicle.

A cleaner and more controlled installation environment not only improves the immediate finish quality, but also helps maintain the long term appearance and performance of the Paint Protection Film over time.

Reverse Osmosis Water System and TDS Monitoring

Alongside this, we’ve also introduced a custom Reverse Osmosis water system built directly into our modular workspace. Water quality is another major part of Paint Protection Film installation that is often overlooked within the industry.

By integrating a dedicated RO setup directly into the facility, we’re able to maintain cleaner filtered water throughout the installation process while improving overall efficiency within the studio itself.

Our integrated TDS meter setup also allows us to monitor water purity in real time. The incoming water supply is reading at over 100ppm, while the filtered output water is reduced to just 2ppm after passing through the RO system.

Reducing dissolved solids within the water helps minimise contamination during installation while creating a cleaner environment for both film application and finishing.

This is particularly important during Paint Protection Film installation as even small levels of contamination trapped beneath the film can affect the overall finish quality. Cleaner water and cleaner working conditions allow us to refine the final result as much as possible while improving consistency across every installation carried out within our Exeter PPF studio.

Maintaining a controlled environment within the studio also allows us to work more efficiently and consistently throughout every stage of the installation process. Combined with our integrated water systems and workflow layout, these upgrades help refine both installation quality and long term durability of the finished product.

We’ve also integrated dedicated slip and alcohol solutions directly on tap alongside both standard RO water and heated RO water running through our Thirsty Work system.

This fully custom setup allows us to streamline the installation process significantly while maintaining consistency across every stage of film application. This level of integration is rarely seen within the industry and reflects our continued focus on refining every stage of the installation process.

XPEL DAP Software and Graphtec Plotter Technology

Alongside the physical upgrades within the studio, we also continue to invest heavily into the software and equipment behind our Paint Protection Film installations.

Our facility operates using XPEL DAP software alongside a dedicated Graphtec plotter system, allowing us to digitally cut and refine Paint Protection Film patterns with precision before installation begins.

This not only improves efficiency within the studio, but also allows for cleaner and more accurate film fitment across complex vehicle panels while significantly reducing the need for bulk cutting directly on the vehicle itself.

Using digital plotting technology also allows us to refine and adapt patterns where required to achieve improved coverage, cleaner edges and a more tailored finish for each individual installation.

Rather than relying solely on standard plotted patterns, our team regularly edits and refines patterns in house where appropriate. This allows us to improve alignment, maximise coverage and create a more bespoke installation tailored to the individual vehicle.

Combined with our controlled installation environment, these systems play a major role in helping us deliver high level Paint Protection Film installations for customers travelling to our Exeter PPF studio from across Devon and the South West.

Bespoke Peel Board System

Another major addition to the workspace has been our bespoke peel board system. Designed specifically for cleaner and more controlled transfer of Paint Protection Film during installation, the board allows us to handle larger sections of film more efficiently while maintaining a cleaner installation process overall.

Small refinements like this play a huge role in improving consistency, accuracy and final finish quality.

New Scissor Lift Installation

We’ve also recently added a new scissor lift into the facility to improve workflow and vehicle accessibility during installation.

With more vehicles now coming through the studio for full body Paint Protection Film packages, improving access around lower vehicle sections and complex areas has become increasingly important in maintaining both installation quality and efficiency.

Designed Around the Customer Experience

For customers, these upgrades are about far more than just equipment or workshop improvements.

Every investment into the facility is designed to improve the overall quality, longevity and consistency of the Paint Protection Film installation itself. From cleaner wrapped edges and reduced contamination through to more precise film alignment and improved durability, these refinements directly influence the final finish customers receive on their vehicle.

Creating a purpose built environment also allows us to maintain higher standards across every installation, giving customers greater confidence that their vehicle is being protected using the best possible processes and conditions available.

Many of our customers travel from across Devon and the wider South West for Paint Protection Film installation. For us, every investment into the facility is ultimately about creating a better experience and a better result for the customer, whether they are protecting a daily driven vehicle or a highly specified supercar.

High level Paint Protection Film installation is built on consistency, and consistency comes from process, environment and attention to detail.

Continuing to Invest in the Future

The facility is also home to our partnership with XPEL Paint Protection Film, one of the most recognised brands within the vehicle protection industry.

Combining premium Paint Protection Film products with a purpose built installation environment allows us to deliver tailored PPF packages for everything from daily driven vehicles through to Porsche, supercar and performance models throughout Exeter, Devon and the South West.

As the business continues to grow, development of the facility continues alongside it. We’re currently in the process of building a dedicated design studio upstairs focused around film plotting, pattern development and future projects.

This next phase of the facility will allow us to further refine workflow while expanding the capabilities of the business moving forward.
